Katy works collaboratively with child, adolescent and young adult clients ages three and
up as well as families, and believes parents are an important component of treatment
for children. With a compassionate and nonjudgemental style, she helps clients gain
insight into what is causing distress in their lives, and focuses on strengths and
resources in a personalized approach.
Areas of focus include adoption and attachment, trauma, ADHD, anxiety, depression,
emotion regulation, communication, and grief. Drawing from Adlerian therapy and
attachment theory for all clients, she keeps relationships and connection at the heart of
the process. Katy uses trauma-informed treatment approaches that include talk and
play therapy as well as expressive arts. She is neurodiversity affirming and welcomes
and supports clients from all cultural and spiritual backgrounds, as well as LGBTQ+
clients.
Before becoming a therapist, Katy worked in education for 15 years as a teacher, tutor
and academic coach, which helps her understand and navigate the social and
academic stresses children and teens face. She also has comprehensive experience
with the impacts of ADHD and executive function difficulties in the classroom and at
home.
Katy graduated from Georgia State University with a Masters of Science in Clinical
Mental Health Counseling and is a Certified Positive Discipline Parent Educator. She
has extensive training in play therapy and is working toward the Registered Play
Therapist credential.
